Catechly

Religion homework for parish programs. Catechists assign it; families do it on a phone with one passkey.

Parish religious-education offices run on volunteers, and most classroom software assumes a teacher with an IT department. Catechly is built for the catechist with ten minutes and the family with three kids and one phone.

What it does

  1. 01Assignments built from seven question types, from multiple choice to matching to a reading.
  2. 02One passkey per family, printed on a login card with a QR code. No accounts, no passwords.
  3. 03Catechists mark work, leave notes and see who has finished at a glance.
  4. 04A new year in four steps. Last year's classes copy over and every child moves up a grade.
  5. 05Families load from an Excel sheet. Announcements go to a family, a grade or a class.
  6. 06Every screen in English and Spanish, light and dark, three text sizes, keyboard and screen reader.

Why it exists

Catechly started in a parish classroom. The homework tool in use asked volunteers to manage logins for every child, and it was built around points, avatars and badges. Families gave up on it; so did catechists.

What it does differently

The parish enters each family once. That record carries over from year to year. A family with several children opens all of their homework with a single passkey, so there is nothing to reset and nothing to forget. Answers save as they go.

On the staff side, the work is the same work catechists already do, just faster. Build an assignment, send it to a class, and read the answers when they come in.

Built to be read

Every screen is translated into Spanish, works with a screen reader and a keyboard, and holds up at a 320px phone at the largest text size. Those are checked automatically on every build, not by hand once.
